The -k flag tells cURL to skip SSL certificate verification. Use this only for testing against self-signed certificates in development — never use it in production as it makes requests vulnerable to MITM attacks.

Basic Auth sends credentials as a Base64-encoded username:password string in the Authorization header. The generated command uses -u username:password which cURL encodes automatically. Ensure you use HTTPS to protect the credentials in transit.

The backslash (\) is a line continuation character in bash/zsh. It makes complex cURL commands readable by splitting them across multiple lines while remaining a single command when executed in a Unix terminal.
